Ajanta

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, they are thirty in number, including the unfinished ones, of which five are chaityagrihas and the rest, sangharamas or viharas (monastery). The paintings and sculptures of Ajanta are considered masterpieces of Buddhist religious art. The paintings depict colourful Buddhist legends and divinities with an exuberance and vitality that is unsurpassed in Indian art.
